Porter: Your Twenty Ninth Week

Well, you’re crawling. It happened on Saturday, 7/13. You took off across the upstairs living room, leaving us dumbfounded. We grabbed the camera and got a video, which I’m excited about. It’s fun to always be able to remember when you became mobile. Everyone likes to freak you out (“now everything changes!” “get ready!” “life will never be the same!”) which is sort of funny to me… life hasn’t been the same since we found out we were pregnant. Actually, life hasn’t truly been “the same” since the moment we got married. Every single day is an adventure, and we are so blessed to experience new and exciting things each day! I’ll take it! 🙂

You also crawled into my lap this week. From across the room, you decided you were hungry (we like to ask you “Are you hungry?” and you always respond frantically when you are) and you high-tailed it over to me and crawled into my lap. Heart melted. Pretty much the best thing ever.

You also finally fit into the flatbill that Jen and Andy got you – best day ever for daddy. You guys wore matching hats, and it was the cutest thing EVER.

Major milestone this week: we checked you into class. Heart attack. I actually wasn’t as freaked out as I thought I would be, and you were great. Everyone said you were such a good boy – no tears. Until I came to pick you up… then you realized I’d been gone, and you were mad.

I adore this photo of you. Eyes, lips, leg rolls. You are one big chunk of perfection.

We also met up with my childhood friend Melissa, and her son Robin (who you look like you could be related to)! We had a lot of fun catching up at Starbucks, and of course, we had to get a photo of you two handsome little boys!

Dear Mobile Porter…

Please stay away from Lennon’s dog bowls. Ew.

Your frantically babyproofing Mommy and Daddy

PS: omg you’re crawling.

PPS: Leave the TV cables alone, too.

Porter: Your Twenty Eighth Week

This week was my 29th birthday!

You lose nose-kisses this week. I don’t know if that’s what it’s called, but I rub my nose back and forth with yours and you always smile really, really big and sometimes it’ll even get a laugh out of you. It’s the best!

You love going on walks, so we went to some trails and enjoyed the sunshine!  Amelia loved walking next to your stroller; she had to be touching you at all times. She loves her baby Poya.

You woke up at 11:59pm on my birthday, and so we had a little impromptu photoshoot. You even tried to smile for the camera, it was so sweet! You looked a little unsure (not a fan of the flash), but I loved all these outtakes we got. (You’re wearing the ribbon from my Nordstrom gift — Chanel perfume. Lesson to you: women love Chanel. It’s always a great gift. Earrings, perfume, a bag, lipgloss. Write that down)

Porter: Your Twenty Seventh Week

Happy 27 weeks of life! I’m in panic mode, because you’re showing more and more signs of beginning to crawl. You can get up on all 4s, and you just sort of sit there and rock back and forth. Like a runner, getting ready for takeoff.

We’re finally FULL into summer, including some stifling hot 90 degree days. You’re been a champ, you’re just not really a fan of sleeping when it’s that hot. You’ve been hanging out in your diaper quite a bit, and spending some time in the galvanized bucket in the yard – backyard bath time is the best. I even got a video of you deciding to pull yourself up to stand in the tub (for the first time!), but I won’t post it on social networks. You can definitely see your boy parts, and while I’m all about sharing our lives on social media… I won’t go there 😉 You’re welcome.

We celebrated the 4th of July at Jen and Andy’s parents, which was a blast. You got to swim a bit, and you successfully napped in the crib at their house. I know your dad was nervous, because he wants you to be able to nap/sleep wherever we are. We don’t want to be those parents that have to be home at the same time every day, so you can fall asleep. I mean, I’m all about a schedule, but with our crazy lives, structure would be a more fitting word. 🙂 A schedule is nearly impossibly. Luckily, you’re SUCH a good baby. You seem to adjust very well. And when you’re tired, you’re tired. You slept like a rock through the entire fireworks show (??).

Something new: you’re waking every few hours to eat. I don’t mind at all, because go right back to sleep… but man, am I exhausted when the morning comes. I didn’t realize how much energy nursing all night takes. I was really lucky to be able to go all night for a couple months, and this new phase — while more exhausting — is just as amazing. You’re a growing boy, and you need to eat! I’m alright with it. 😉 I love spending that quiet time with you in the early morning hours… the house is so still. It’s peaceful.

AND, I can catch up on Candy Crush.

Just being honest.

I love you. And I love your newfound trick of BEGGING, too. I can’t eat anything in peace, and I hear this just gets worse over time.

Begging again.

We went to watch cousin Noah’s baseball game on a really warm Saturday morning — so fun! You love being out and about.

Porter: Your Twenty Fifth Week

25 Weeks! How cute are you?

Big week for you: you’re almost crawling! You can get yourself up on all fours, but then you’re not really sure what to do, so you flop back down on your belly and wiggle like mad. You’ve had a couple of bad nights sleep due to (I’m guessing?) growing and teething. You love, love, love Lennon – you’re starting to watch him and smile to yourself when he licks your hand or rolls in the grass or barks or does anything, pretty much. It’s pretty much the sweetest thing.

Oh. Tried avocado this week. You’re not a fan. I’m going to circle back to this in a few weeks, no child of mine is going to hate avocado. No matter what your dad says.

Grumpy Porter = bathtime. Instant fix.

Happy FIRST Father’s Day to your daddy… we couldn’t ask for a better man in our lives. He loves us so, so much. And, he’s a man after God’s own heart, which is what I pray daily for you, too. I want you to worship like does. I want you to serve like he does. I want you to know who you are, and love people like he does. You’re growing up with the perfect example of a father’s love, and I’m so blessed to be apart of it, too.

Our Real Life.

At this very moment, I’m on my phone in a hot bath, because I just need some time. You’re teething, and having a tough week.

You have decided to boycott naps — yes, you! Our all star sleeper! — and today you made your newfound feelings about naptime very apparent by your ear-piercing, cringe-inducing screams this evening. Like, at one point, my ears were still ringing long after you’d finished your bloodcurdling shriek… Yeah. Those kind of screams. Not cute.

I decided to try to feed you avocados tonight, because, you know… 6 months old, why not, vitamins, nutrients, something new to distract you from your hatred of the world, blah blah blah.

Well, you hated it. Yet another way in which you take after your father. I’m not gonna lie, my heart hurt a little when you threw your head back and moaned (your attempt to escape the Bumbo/dinner) in distaste. How can you hate avocados?!?

Maybe it just takes some adjusting.

Don’t worry. We’ll try again. *evil mom smirk*

I decided to capture this night in a quick blog post, because I don’t want anyone to think that life as a mom (your mom) is always adorable giggles, millions-of-kisses, blowing raspberries and #porteralan. I mean, you’re close to perfect… But God has a great way of reminding me, as I gloat in your perfect, chipmunky cheeks and joyful smiles, that we’re human. You and I. We mess up. Things don’t always go according to plan.

We have bad nights, too. 🙂

And I love you just the same.
